The hidden valley of Happiness, Tsum Valley locates in a trans-Himalayan region of Gorkha. It has not been long this enchanting valley has been opened for the visitors, approximately 5 years. Tsum Valley is a sacred pilgrimage located on the northern side of Gorkha to the north of Buddha Himal and Himalchuli, and to the west of Ganesh Himal and to the east of Sringi Himal

against the backdrop of these peaks, the valley is a mesmerizing Himalayan valley. Extremely rich in culture and traditions, there are various ancient heritages to explore. Most of the inhabitants are of Tibetan origin hence they have their own unique dialect.

Enhanced with ancient monasteries, chortens and mani walls (prayer walls made of thousands of stone slabs carved with deities and prayers.), Tsum Valley has a long history of Buddhism. Moreover, it is believed that the Buddhist saint Milarepa pondered in the caves of three mountains. This sacred cave is known as Piren Phu (Pigeon Cave) which locates near a village near Burji. Furthermore, this cave is inscribed with many religious texts as well as ancient scripts on the stones and over the ceiling which the visit to the cave a worthy one. Other interesting monasteries are Rachen Gompa in the Shiar Khola valley; Mu Gompa which is a six-hour hike from Chekkam in the Tsum valley also Dephyudonma Gompa (the oldest gompa of Tsum Valley) in the mountains between central Nepal and Tibet and Lungdang Gompa.

The trek initiates from drive to Arughat Bazaar from Kathmandu. The first half of the trek ascends the Budhi Gandaki Valley on good paths through a blend of dense forest, terraced fields, and hill villages. Not to mention, the main route to this valley is the one leading into the Manaslu Conservation Area. Ascending up to 1200 m, we’ll come across some lovely cascading Some of the more beautiful waterfalls are Chhuypang Chhemo Chu le, Saki Lungba Chhupyang, Samba Tingding Chhupyang, and Syoga Lungba. Moreover, The houses in the area are slate-roofed and built of mud.

Trek in Tsum Valley is a perfect opportunity to access the Shangrila land of Nepal. Exploring through some unspoiled ethnic villages of Liding, Machhakhola, Phidim, Jagat. Day 01:

You will heartily be welcomed by our representative at the Tribhuwan International Airport. From thereon, you will be dropped at the hotel for relaxing. After that, you will be given a brief orientation of the Annapurna Base Camp trek by our representative. 

Day 02:

After having our early breakfast, we drive towards Arughat from Kathmandu on private transport. Arughat is 7 hours away from Kathmandu. Heading into the western mountains, we take the trail via Dhadingbesi. Through the mud road of Dhadingbesi, we move towards Arughat. The trail offers amazing views of greenery hills. Finally, we reach Arughat the starting point of our trek. Also, Arughat is the major city in the region divided into two parts by the Budi Gandaki river.

After reaching Arughat, we trek towards Shoti Khola. Crossing the bridge over the Budi Gandaki river, we initiate our trek. We pursue the stone paved paths north through the bazaar. The trail gets lofty and difficult as we cross the Arkhet Khola over a suspension bridge. Descending further, the leads through cascading waterfalls and finally to Shoti Khola.

Day 03:

The trek begins by traversing the bridge and hiking through the beautiful Sal forests. Ascending onto the ridge above great rapids. Hiking through the craggy trail, the further paths have certain ups and downs. We move past two tropical waterfalls on a lofty trail clinging to the side of the cliff. Ultimately, we descend down a few terraced farms, further heading towards the path to Macha Khola. We walk along rounded stones followed by ascending a ridge. Finally, we reach Macha Khola.

Day 04:

After having our early morning breakfast, we head towards our today’s destination that is Jagat. It takes approximately 6 hours to reach Jagat from Macha Khola. The trail is rather precarious including ups and downs. Traversing the Tharo Khola, we reach Khorlabesi. Few more ups and downs and we reach a small hot spring, from where we reach to Tatopani. From there we ascend over another crease crossing the Budi Gandaki on a suspension bridge. Furthermore, we mount on a wide, well-crafted staircase, then across a landslide and over a ridge to Dobhan. Crossing a suspension bridge over the Dobhan Khola, the trail climbs on a rugged trail to Duman. Ascending up again to the Budhi Gandaki, we reach Yaru Khola. Crossing suspension bridges and mounting up ridges, we finally reach Jagat.

Day 05:

After having our early morning breakfast, we head towards Lokpa. The trek takes about 6 hours to reach the destination. Initially, trek moves gently uphill and then follows a flat leveled path. We cross a suspension bridge over Budi Gandaki before entering Philim. Philim is a big village mainly inhabited by the Gurungs. Furthermore, from Philim, we ascend a gradual uphill where we relax and have our lunch at Ekle Bhatti. Finally, we reach Lokpa.

Day 06:

Today, we start our trek from Lokpa to Chumling (Lower Tsum). It would take approximately 5 hours to reach Chumling. The trail rewards us with the spectacular views of Budhha Himal, Himal. Moreover, Chumling prominent for the three gumbas here. They are Panago Gumba, Mani Dhungyur, and Gurwa Gumba. Also, there are also several good campsites

Day 07:

From Chumling (Lower Tsum) we head towards Chhokangparo (upper Tsum). It would take approximately 7 hours to reach Chhokangparo. The upper Tsum is inhabited mostly by Tibetan people. We start off the trek by traversing through a suspension bridge. Further, we walk past Rainjam to Serpu Khola crossing another bridge, we reach the Gho Village. Moreover, we continue 2 hours climb to Tsum taking us to the village of Chhokangparo.

Day 08:

Today we start off our trek from Chhokangparo to Chhule-Nile. While ascending towards Nile one must be aware of the altitude problems. Probably, this would be the last village heading north in the upper Tsum valley. Walking past Lamagaon traversing through rope suspension bridge to the Rachen Gompa, which is also well known as Nunnery Gompa too. As the trek continues, we cross the Shiar Khola. Continuing our walk we head towards Phurbe and Pangdu. Ambulating through the Chhule village ascending upstream and crossing a suspension bridge, we finally arrive at Nile.

Day 09:

After having our breakfast, we head towards Mu Gompa which would take 4 hours of walk. The trail ascends to Mu Gompa, which is one of the oldest monasteries in the Tsum Valley which situates in mountains. Moreover, it is the largest and the farthest point in the Tsum valley. Also, the history of this monastery is directly associated with the dawn of Buddhism in the valley. The monastery is run by Lama Serap of Nile Ladrang from the Kangin sect. 

Day 10:

Today we start our trek from the highest and the farthest point, Mu Gompa to Rachen Gompa. Rachen Gompa knows to be one of the largest nunneries in Tsum valley belonging to Ngak-pa sect. Animal slaughtering is strictly prohibited here. On the way, we also pass a small village called Dumje before reaching Rachen Gompa.

Day 11:

Descending on a narrow trail along Shiar Khola, we cross the bridge to Dhumje (2440m). The trail onwards ascends through a very steep path on an indistinct track through pines and rhododendrons until the track starts traversing at a mani wall with prayer flags. Taking an uphill through the pine forest, there will be a steep zigzag climb through huge silver pines to reach Gumba Lungdang (3,200m). This small gompa with 40 nuns has intense and engrossing worship from 6.00-7.30pm each night. Not to mention, you will be delighted to see the majestic views of snow peaks in all directions.

Day 12:

Today we start our trek from Gumba Lungdang to Lokpa, which would take approximately 8 hours of walking. We head on our way to Lokpa along with an alternate exploration of Ripchet village. On the way, we get to explore the cultural settlements along with some breathtaking scenic views.

Day 13:

We reach Jagat from Lokpa after 5 hours of walking. Walking past Philim we move back to Jagat. Descending from the Gurung village we move ahead on our trail. Crossing the narrow valleys we cross a suspension bridge on our way. The valley widens as we traverse through the bridge. Climbing down the craggy ridge on the way to Salleri, we finally reach Jagat.

Meal: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 14:

Today we start our trekking from Jagat to Lapu Bensi which would take approximately 8 hours of walking. Wildering through green forests and cascading waterfalls, we head towards Lapu Bensi. Lapu Besi is a small village which is inhabited by Mongolian people. Overnight at Lapu Bensi.

Day 15:

Descending through the audacious trail and the cascading waterfalls, we head towards Arughat. We cross the Arkhet Khola and head towards Budi Gandaki valley. Arriving at Sabte bazaar we further walk past the hydroelectric plant following the stone streets, we arrive at the Arughat Bazar.

Day 16:

The adventurous trek to the Tsum has come to an end. Today we drive from Arughat to Kathmandu on private transport. It would take approximately 7 hours if we take a tourist bus. After reaching Kathmandu you can relax and stroll the beautiful capital city. Also, popular as the city of temples, you can visit various world heritage sites here.

Day 17:

Today we spend our entire day exploring the capital city Kathmandu. Also popular as ‘the city of Temples’, you can visit the world heritage sites such as Boudhanath Stupa, Swayambhunath Stupa, Pashupatinath temple, Patan Durbar Square, Bhaktapur Durbar Square. Explore the beauty of the city, its culture, and tradition on this day. Furthermore, you will be prepared for trekking overnight. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 18:

Your spontaneous adventure to the Himalayas has come to an end. You will be taking back some best trekking memories along with you. Not to mention, your Tsum Valley Trek would be a worthy as well as a memorable one. You will leave your hotels and pack your luggage and leave for the airport. Our representative will drop you at the Tribhuvan international airport.
