What Are The Permits Required In Upper Mustang Trek?

Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP)

Upper Mustang Restricted Area Permit (RAP)

This permit allows legal entry into the restricted area of the upper Mustang route from Kagbeni and above. It costs USD 500 per person for the first 10 days in the restricted area. Additionally if you stay for more than 10 days, then you are required to pay USD 50 per extra day as an extra charge.

TIMS (Trekkers’ Information Management System) card

The TIMS ( Trekker’s Information Management System ) card is another permit required in the Upper Mustang Trekking. You can get the TIMS card in Kathmandu or Pokhara which costs you NPR 2,000 per person and is used for safety tracking.

Upper Mustang Trekking Guide And Porter

The Upper Mustang Trekking trail lies under a protected region of the Annapurna conservation area and is also listed as a restricted area beyond Kagbeni. Hence, Upper Mustang trekking guide and porter are mandatory due to its restricted area status. You cannot do the Upper Mustang solo trek as it is a restricted area requiring at least 2 people to even issue the restricted area permit (RAP). Day 02:

On the second day, after enjoying your hotel breakfast, you’ll embark on a captivating cultural tour of Kathmandu. Begin at the historic Kathmandu Durbar Square, then visit the serene Boudhanath Stupa and the revered Pashupatinath Temple. Conclude with panoramic views at the Swayambunath Stupa. Day 03:

Day 04:

This morning, we wake up early to catch a short flight from Pokhara to Jomsom, enjoying the stunning mountain views along the way to the lively market town in the Mustang region. After landing, we take a relaxing walk to Kagbeni, where we explored its charming streets and checked out the interesting clay decorations on the walls, giving us a peek into the local culture.

Duration: Approximately 3 hours.
Day 05:

The day begins with a morning breakfast followed by departure for a trek alongside the Kali Gandaki River. Our journey takes us towards Tangbe village, where we have the opportunity to explore the renowned Sky Caves. Continuing onwards, we pass by Gumbakang and Chhusang, all the while reveling in the breathtaking views of Mt. Nilgiri and Tukuche Peak. Eventually, we arrive at Chele village, where we conclude our day with a hearty dinner and overnight stay at the guesthouse in Chele.

Day 06:

Start off with a morning breakfast before embarking on a trek through barren rocky trails. As we traverse this rugged terrain, we make our way to the village of Samar. Continuing onwards, we reach Syangbochen, passing by the ruins of the former royal palace along the route. As evening descends, we conclude our day with a satisfying dinner and settle in for an overnight stay at the guesthouse in Syangbochen.

Day 07:

We start the day with a satisfying breakfast before setting off on our adventure. Our first destination is the Yamda La Pass, where we're greeted with awe-inspiring views of the Annapurna Himalayas. Continuing our journey, we make our way to Ghyami, where we can explore the Red Gompa. As the day winds down, we gather for a delicious dinner and spend the night at the guesthouse in Ghyami.

Day 08:

We begin the day with a hearty breakfast before embarking on our journey. Following the trail that leads us over passes and through scenic landscapes, we press on until we reach Tsarang village. Upon arrival, we check in at the guesthouse and then proceed to explore the Red Monastery and the old Tsarang palace, immersing ourselves in the rich history and culture of the region. As evening descends, we gather for a satisfying dinner and settle in for an overnight stay at the guesthouse in Tsarang.

Day 09:

Begin your day with a hearty breakfast before embarking on a captivating trek through dry, barren landscapes. Traverse sandy desert dunes and steep pathways, eventually reaching the ancient stone gate of Lo-Mangthang village. Relax and enjoy a satisfying dinner followed by a peaceful overnight stay at a cozy guesthouse in Lo-Manathang.

Day 10:

Start day 10 of the Upper Mustang with a delightful morning breakfast to reenergize for a day of exploring around and in Lo-Mangthang. Take a village excursion to soak in the local culture, visiting iconic landmarks like the Jampa Kakhang and exploring the area around the old King's residence. Discover the spiritual heritage of the region by visiting the Thubchen, Chodey, and Choprang Gompas. In the afternoon, embark on an excursion to Chhosar, where you'll have the opportunity to visit the Garphu and Nyiphu monasteries, as well as the intriguing Caves. After a day filled with exploration, return to the enchanting village of Lo-Mangthang and end your day with a delicious dinner and a comfortable overnight stay at the welcoming guesthouse.

Day 11:

Commence your morning with a fulfilling breakfast before setting off on your journey. Traverse through the dry and rugged terrain as you head towards the Lo Gekar Monastery. Along the way, admire the sprawling Mani wall, renowned as the world’s longest Mani wall, and take in the striking view of the crimson cliffs. Upon arrival at Dhakmar village, check into your accommodations. In the afternoon, embark on a hike to explore the ancient caves, immersing yourself in the rich history of the area. End your day with a delicious dinner and a peaceful overnight stay at the inviting guesthouse in Dhakmar.

Duration: Approximately 6 to 7 hours.
Day 12:

Begin your day with a hearty breakfast as you prepare for the journey ahead. Retrace your path along the trail, now turning southward. Take in the stunning panoramas of the majestic Dhaulagiri and Annapurna Himalayas along the way. Upon reaching Ghiling village, indulge in a savory dinner and settle in for a restful night at the cozy guesthouse.

Duration: Approximately 6 hours.
Day 13:

Start your day with a hearty breakfast before setting off on your journey. Return to Chhuksang village, bidding farewell to the captivating landscapes of Mustang along the trail. With the trailing being familiar and now in reverse mostly downwards we take in the final glimpses of this breathtaking Mustang region as you make your way back. Arrive back at Chhuksang village, where you'll enjoy a delicious dinner and spend the night at the cozy guesthouse.

Duration: Approximately 6 hours.
Day 14:

On the last day of your trekking adventure of the Upper Mustang trek, enjoy breakfast before continuing on the trail leading back to Kagbeni. Follow the path alongside the Kali Gandaki River as you head southward back towards Jomsom. Upon reaching Jomsom, check in to the guesthouse and take some time to relax after your successful trek. As an optional activity, you can join in an evening celebration with the team to celebrate the success of your journey. Conclude the day with a delicious dinner and a comfortable overnight stay at the guesthouse in Jomsom.

Day 15:

On day 15 enjoy breakfast and check out from your accommodation at Jomsom. Catch a morning flight back to Pokhara and transfer to your hotel for check-in. Take advantage of the rest of the day to explore the charming city. Enjoy optional activities such as boating on Phewa Lake, visiting the new Shiva statue, hiking up to the Peace Pagoda, and exploring the Mahendra Cave and Davis waterfall. Contact your Himalayan Arirang representative to book any additional activities or overnights in Pokhara. Conclude your day with a relaxing overnight stay at your booked hotel in Pokhara.

Day 16:

On this day we leave the hotel in Pokhara after breakfast and transfer to the bus park nearby. After arriving back Himalaya Arirang will transfer you back to your booked hotel in Kathmandu. At the evening we organize a special thank you and farewell dinner in a traditional Nepalese restaurant. Spend the night in your booked hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 17:
