The circuit trek is graded as moderate to strenuous grade difficulty. It is a remote trek into himalayan wilderness with long and tiring trekking days. Along with longer trekking days of 15-18, this circuit introduces you with rugged terrain, very limited facilities and high altitude trekking for an extended time period. The highest point on this trek, the Ngoro La Pass is a high mountain pass with glacial lakes which needs to be crossed to reach the next destination in this circuit itinerary. These characteristics make the Great Lake Circuit Hike physically and mentally demanding hence, best suited for trekkers with prior experience with high altitude and remote wilderness. Compared to some popular and fairly developed treks like Everest Base Camp trek, the Buddha Himal trail is extremely remote with minimal facility and higher in difficulty thus, is not recommended for beginner trekkers. 

When Is The Best Time For Himalchuli Great Lake Circuit Trek?

Manaslu Conservation Area Permit (MCAP)

This permit is required to gain entry into the conservation zone of the Manaslu Conservation Area which ensures protection and preservation of pristine wilderness, wildlife and biodiversity. The cost of MCAP is USD 30 per person.

Restricted Area Permit (RAP)

Since Buddha Himal Himalchuli circuit trail passes through restricted high altitude areas, you require this permit to legally trek in this region. The cost of RAP for one person is USD 100.

Day 01:

You will land in Tribhuvan International Airport, from where our representative will meet and greet you and transfer you to your 3 star hotel accommodation. Depending on your arrival time, you can explore Kathmandu the bustling capital city of Nepal and its streets or simply just rest. Later in the evening you will have a small trek briefing with your trekking guide.

 

Day 02:

This is the exploration day in Kathmandu, you will visit the UNESCO world heritage sites like Pashupatinath, Bouddhanath, Swyambhunath, Kathmandu Durbar square and will stay overnight in your hotel. This day is also for preparation of trekking permits and gears as you will depart for your adventure the next day.

Day 03:

After early breakfast you will take an exciting 7 to 9 hours private jeep drive from Kathmandu to Barpak village in the Gorkha district in central Nepal. The journey is filled with scenic beauty passing through hills, rivers and valleys, and traditional village life. This jeep drive will offer you varying landscapes and take you to Barpak which is a historic and beautiful Gurung village from where the Great Lake circuit trail trek begins. You will stay overnight here in local teahouses/ guesthouses

 

Day 04:

This morning after breakfast you will start your hike from Barpak Village to Lamra Kharka which is at an approximate altitude of 2,600 to 2,800 meters from sea level. You will be walking for around 5 to 6 hours climbing steadily through farmland, rhododendron forests and oak trees. You will experience the terrain changing into a more alpine landscape as you near the Lamra Kharka which is a high altitude pasture. You will stay overnight here in a local teahouse or camping in tents.

 

Day 05:

After breakfast, your trek will continue ascending in altitude to open alpine grassland passing through thinning forest. After around 5 to 6 hours of hiking from Lamra Kharka after gradually ascending in altitude you will reach Mircha Kharka which is at an elevation of around 3,360 meters from sea level. It is a high altitude pasture with open and wide meadows and sharp ridges seen in the distance which is used for grazing by the village herders. You will spend the night here at Mircha Kharka in teahouses or camps.

 

Day 06:

On this day after breakfast, you will begin your hike upwards the high himalayas to one of the sacred lakes in this trek. You will be walking for around 6 to 7 hours to reach Narad Pokhari which is at an elevation of around 4,100 to 4,200 meters from sea level. The terrain becomes rugged and barren as we are now at the higher alpine areas. You will enter the true alpine wilderness from this region with the change in air density with lower oxygens and dramatic surroundings. You will stay overnight here in teahouses or camps.

 

Day 07:

After breakfast and exploration around the Narad Pokhari lake which is also known as Khaire Khola your journey of this day begins with a trek to Tapi Danda. You will gently descend in altitude which aids in acclimatization along sharp ridgelines and the difficult terrain for about 4 to 5 hours until Tapi Danda. Tapi Danda is a scenic viewpoint which offers you stunning panoramic views of the Himalayas. You will be in teahouses or camps and end your day here at Tapi Danda

 

Day 08:

On this day after breakfast, you will be doing around 5 to 6 hours of hiking along the circuit trail from Tapi Danda to another sacred lake in this Himalchuli circuit itinerary. You will descend in altitude to the elevation of around 3,500 to 3,700 meters from sea level. After your trek, you will reach Kista Pokhari which is another sacred lake that lies in a quiet basin surrounded by wide pastureland and views of magnificent Himalayas in the distance. Enjoying the peace and serenity, you will stay overnight here in Kista Pokhari in teahouses or camps.

 

Day 09:

After breakfast, you will begin your hike up to Ngyamlo Ra which is a high altitude ridge which provides breathtaking views of the Himalchuli and Buddha Himal. You will be trekking for an approximate of 5 to 6 hours to the elevation of around 3,800 to 4,000 meters from sea level. The landscape of Ngyamlo Ra is also very alpine with wide pastures which provides an opportunity to spot the Blue Sheep along the sharp slope of the ridge. You will spend the night in a teahouse or do tent camping

 

Day 10:

You will begin this day after an early breakfast, gradually descending in altitudes of around 3,700 to 3,900 meters from sea level. From the  high ridge of Ngyamlo Ra you will arrive in Ukhanda Kharka which is a broad pasture land offering you views of the towering peaks and wide valleys. You will rest and enjoy the views that Ukhanda Khakra has to offer which helps in acclimatization. Your day ends here and you will stay in teahouses or camps.

 

Day 11:

After breakfast, you will trek on the trail path which gradually rises in altitude to around 4,000 meters, with 4 to 5 hours of trekking and leads you to Meme Pokhari which is another sacred lake in the Great Lake circuit trek itinerary. The landscape and scenery is magnificent in Meme Pokhari as it is set against a backdrop of dramatic mountains holding spiritual  significance. The lake also provides stunning views of the surrounding peaks reflecting on the surface of water. You will spend the night in a teahouse or camp.

 

Day 12:

On this day after breakfast, you will trek from Meme Pokhari to U Kharka which is another pastureland in the high alpine region. You will be walking for around 4 to 5 hours descending in altitude which makes the hike moderate. Following the route with alpine slopes, you will reach U Kharka where you will spend the night, rest and recover.

 

Day 13:

On this day you will gain altitude and traverse high meadows and glacial terrain. After breakfast from U Kharka you will begin your trek to Ngagi Kharka at an elevation of 3,800 to 4,000 meters from sea level. You will walk for around 5 to 6 hours and reach Ngagi Kharka which is another high altitude pasture. You will stay in a remote high camp before your visit to another sacred lake.

 

Day 14:

After breakfast, you will explore around Thulagi Lake which is one of the highest glacial lakes in Nepal. You will be surrounded by icefalls and towering peaks and enjoy the true wilderness of the high altitude alpine region. This day is also for rest and acclimatization for your upcoming high pass crossing. You will stay overnight in the remote high camp

 

Day 15:

This day in your itinerary you will trek from the Ngagi Kharka pastureland to the highest point in this trek which is Ngoro La Pass at an elevation of 4,200 to 4,400 meters from sea level. You will be hiking for 6 to 7 hours in the most difficult trek in this itinerary. You will ascend through steep terrains which are very demanding to Ngoro La Pass which is the highest point of the circuit. After reaching the Ngoro La Pass, you can soak the breathtaking views of the Himalchuli, Buddha Himal massifs and other surrounding snow capped peaks. You will descend back to camp carefully and stay overnight there.

 

Day 16:

On this day after an early breakfast, you will take a long descent from the higher alpine wilderness back to the greener valleys of the lowlands. This day’s trek will require around 6 to 7 hours trek downwards in altitude to the village regions. You will reach an altitude of 1,500 to 1,700 meters from the highest altitude on this trek at around 4,300 meters into the cultivated valley land of Sanjapu Village. You will stay overnight here in a local teahouse and enjoy the warm hospitality of the Gurung people leaving the remote Himalayan adventure behind.

 

Day 17:

After breakfast you will leave Syange and its immersive culture, lifestyle and warm hospitality of the villagers and take a drive back to Kathmandu, the city of temples. The drive will be around 7 to 9 hours with a scenic route with rivers, valleys and hillside roads back to Kathmandu. After your arrival in Kathmandu, you will be transferred to your hotel from where you can choose to rest or explore the streets and go souvenir shopping.

 

Day 18:

After breakfast, you will be transferreinal Departure.d to Tribhuvan International Airport before the 3-hour early flight time where you will board the international flight back to your home, marking the end of your unforgettable Buddha Himal Himalchuli Great Lake Circuit Trek with Attentive Holiday Tours.
