Kanchenjunga is a unique gift of nature; it is situated in eastern Nepal. At 8586 m above sea level, it is the third-highest peak in the world and the second-highest peak in Nepal. It is located in the administrative district of Taplajung, which shares a boundary with India and China. It contains a full range of natural beauty and attractive things available in different parts of the world. So, it has a wide range of diversity.

Kanchenjunga is one of the conservation areas that has been controlled by the government of Nepal. The region is protected by the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area, so it requires a special permit to trek in this region. With these limits, the spectacular and distinctive local flora and fauna remain in unspoiled shape. Kanchenjunga, a remote and craggy peak, is ideal for extremely brave mountaineers looking for a challenge.

First, we will start from Kathmandu, fly to Bhadrapur airport, and then from there we will travel in a private vehicle up to Taplejung. From there our trek will start.

On this high-altitude Kanchenjunga Circuit trek, we will visit the North Base Camps of Kanchenjunga. We will pass through settings rich in waterfalls, rivers, verdant meadows, rhododendrons, orchids, lilies, primula, pine forests, birch, and other vegetation. We will also explore the magnificent Yalung Glacier. We will also have the opportunity to observe local customs and visit the Ramtang and Oktang monasteries. Sherpa, Limbu, Rai, Tamang, and other ethnic groups will meet us with genuine hospitality and authentic tea houses and small lodges for accommodation.

We have to remain alert at all times because this area is home to many endangered Species. What is the Suitable time for Kanchenjunga Basecamp?

The most suitable seasons for trekking the Kanchenjunga Basecamp are spring (March to May) and fall (September to November). These times provide ideal weather, beautiful views, and the finest overall hiking experience.

Mild temps and stable circumstances. Daytime temperatures in lower altitudes range from 10°C to 20°C, whereas higher altitudes are cooler, ranging from -5°C to 10°C. The location is bright, with rhododendron forests in full bloom, producing a colorful landscape. Excellent mountain views, with a bright sky in the morning and a few clouds later in the day.

Not Recommand time for Kanchengunja trekking.

During the monsoon season (June to August), heavy rains can make pathways treacherous, increasing the risk of landslides. Leech infestations in lower areas can also be a problem.

During winter (December-February), temperatures can reach -15°C at higher altitudes. Heavy snow can obstruct paths and passes, making travel difficult and dangerous.

How risk of altitude sickness in Kanchenjunga Trek?

Altitude sickness risk is high on the Kanchenjunga Circuit trek because you trek 5,000 meters above sea level. Starting the trek from Taplajung at 1,440 meters, you will ascend to Sele La Pass at 4,200 meters. As the elevation gain is high and most trekkers are not used to high altitude, they suffer from altitude sickness.

The one golden rule to avoid altitude sickness while high-altitude trekking is ascending gradually. Take your time to immerse yourself in the environment and enjoy your surroundings. Keep yourself hydrated and get ample rest. Make sure you are eating enough water and much food.

  • Altitude Symptoms: headache, vomiting, nausea, dizziness, difficulty in breathing, insomnia, loss of appetite, etc.
