 Bhutan Taktsang Monastery

Bhutan, the Land of the Thunder Dragon, is a legendary Himalayan kingdom between India and China. Bhutan is a landlocked kingdom that lies in eastern Himalayan and is known for its amazing landscape, diverse culture, tradition, and unique development policy. Bhutan is currently run by the King, Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck. His rule began in 2006 when his father Jigme Singye Wangchuck resigned his power and passed it to his son during the public coronation ceremony held in the 100th year of monarchy in Bhutan. Bhutan focuses on gross national Happiness (GNH) rather than GDP. Its commitment is to protect to natural environment by carbon-neutral status. Tourism helps to increase the GDP of Bhutan. The main sources of Bhutan's income are tourism and Hydro.

Taktsang Monastery or Tiger's Nest Monastery was built in the late 17th century atop a cave made into the rock over 3,000 meters altitude above the Paro Valley. Although we refer to it as the Tiger's Nest in English, Taktsang means "tigress' lair" and gets its name from the mythology surrounding its founding.

According to mythology, Guru Rinpoche, an 8th-century Indian Buddhist instructor, was carried up the mountain by a student who transformed into a tigress. Guru Rinpoche remained in the cave for 3 years, 3 months, 3 days, and 3 hours for meditation after their arrival. When he finished, it was renamed Paro Taktsang and considered a sacred site.

The monastery is open from 8 am morning to 1 pm and from 2 pm to 6 pm this time you can enter the Monastery otherwise you have to wait till time. Before 8 Tiger Nest Monastery is not open for anyone so, you have to be on time for the hike to Tiger Nest Monastery.

Day 01:

Welcome to Bhutan, the shiny Himalayan Kingdom. Upon arrival at Paro International Airport, our representative will welcome you and transfer you to the beautiful drive to Thimphu. It is 54 km from Paro and takes 1-2 hours to drive. On the way, we will stop at Iron Bride for a scenic view. we will pass through Chuzon, where the Paro and Thimphu rivers join. This location is highly significant in Bhutan and provides an opportunity for some memorable pictures. 

Our tour to Thimphu also includes a visit to Simtokha Dzong, also known as 'SangkakZabdhonPhodrang.' Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal built it in 1629, and it is often regarded as Bhutan's first dzong. Simtokha Dzong is well-known for blending monastic and administrative amenities, and its name, "Simtokha," has an intriguing history related to the protection of defeated demons.

Upon arrival in Thimphu, you'll check into your accommodation and have some time to relax and freshen up. In the evening, have a delicious meal at your hotel.

Day 02:

After breakfast, we will go for sightseeing in different places in Thimphu. We will explore the Government-run Handicrafts Emporium and local artisan stores to vibrant Bhutanese art and craft, including Thangkas, masks, and many local products. After that, moved on to the Painting School in Zorig Chusum, where you may see students creating traditional Buddhist scrolls. Visit a Bhutanese paper factory to observe the traditional paper-making process and continue to the Traditional Medicine Institute to discover more about Bhutan's holistic healthcare techniques. After a visit to the factory, explore the Folk Heritage Museum provides an overview of Bhutanese daily life through its displays of tools and household goods.

After lunch, we will visit Thimphu Dzong, an ancient fort and monastery with breathtaking architecture. It is also the seat of government since 1952. This amazing fortune- structure is located on the bank of the Wang Chu River. From here, we will also visit the Takin Reserve to witness Bhutan's original national animal.

After sightseeing we will drive back to Paro, a journey that will take approximately 1 hour to cover a distance of 54 kilometers.

Visit Ta Dzong: Upon your arrival in Paro, explore Ta Dzong, a historic structure that originally served as a watchtower and now houses the National Museum. The museum's collection is a treasure trove of ancient Bhutanese art, artifacts, weapons, coins, stamps, and a small natural history collection. This visit will provide fascinating insights into Bhutan's cultural and historical heritage.

Your second day in Bhutan promises a deeper dive into the country's cultural and artistic traditions, as well as an enriching experience in the heart of its capital, Thimphu, and a journey back to Paro filled with historical discoveries.

Day 03:

After breakfast, prepare for a hike up to Niger Nest Monastery also known as Taktsang Monastery.  It is about a 12km drive (over half an hour) from Paro City to the start point of the Tiger's Nest hike route.

Hiking to Tiger Nest Monastery usually takes around 2-3 hours. With almost 4.8 km of uphill trekking and 4.8 km of downhill strolling, the Tiger's Nest Hike takes about 5 to 6 hours to complete.

At the halfway point the buffet miles, coffee, and tea are available for hikers. It is the first viewpoint where you can look up Tiger's Nest Monastery, the incredible religious site of Buddhists. As the viewing position ascends, the outline of Tiger's Nest Monastery becomes increasingly clear. On the journey ahead, you can enjoy the hike in Bhutan’s forest and will see more and more prayer flags and prayer wheels, that the Bhutanese worshippers have left behind. You will also have a panoramic view of the beautiful Paro Valley below. If you visit in April, you will have the opportunity to see the high-altitude rhododendrons blooming, creating a stunning display of red clouds amidst the mountains.

After hiking the hill, we will take a rest at the hotel, and observe the evening vibes of Paro.

Day 04:

 After breakfast, the morning will be free and on the time of the flight schedule, we will move to the Paro International Airport.
