Gokyo Valley Trek Difficulty

Is There Risk of Altitude Sickness During the Gokyo Lakes Trek?

Yes, Gokyo Valley Trek presents a risk of altitude sickness as the trek exposes us to more than 4,000 meters altitude for several days. With our 12 Days Gokyo Valley Trek itinerary, you are above 4,000 meters for 4 days which carries a major risk of altitude sickness. The air becomes thinner with low levels of oxygen as you gain altitude.

Headache, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, sleeplessness, etc are some of the early signs of altitude sickness. Let our expert guides know about your symptoms as soon as you identify them. They monitor you daily to make sure everything is fine. Take the following steps to avoid altitude sickness during Gokyo Valley Lakes Trek:

  • Acclimatization
  • Proper rest
  • Good healthy foods
  • Adequate hydration (3 to 4 litres per day)
  • Gradual pace of hiking

If you follow these measures daily on the trail, you will be much less likely to fall ill to altitude sickness. Plus always listen to your body and the discomfort rather than pushing ahead.
