What Permits Are Required During Bhutan Holiday Tour ?

During the western valley tour of Bhutan you require a few permits. The type of Permits are as mentioned:

Visa - You will need a visa as an entry permit to enter Bhutan via any route which is managed by a tour operator. Except Indian, Bangladeshi, and Maldivian nationals who don’t require a visa and are accepted with just a Passport or Voter ID.

Route permit - You require a route permit to travel beyond Paro valley and Thimphu which is provided to you by your tour operator while the immigration in Thimphu.

Sustainable Development Fee (SDF) - Tourists are required to pay a certain amount to the government of Bhutan as fee for sustainable development. USD 100 is the amount for one person per night for the SDF and for children aged 6 to 12 is USD 50. Additionally, Indian nationals are required to pay INR 1,200 per person per night and for children 6 to 12 INR 600.

Day 01:

This unforgettable experience of yours will begin with a short flight over the majestic peaks of the Himalayas. You will board your flight from Kathmandu’s Tribhuvan International Airport to the beautiful Paro valley of Bhutan. During your flight, you can see the sights of towering Himalayas, alpine forests, temples and monasteries from a bird's eye view. After you arrive at Paro International Airport, you will pass immigration with the Visa of Bhutan stamped on your passport. Your Bhutanese guide will welcome you and then you will drive to Thimphu the capital city of Bhutan. During the noon, visit Tashichhodzong which is known as the fortress of glorious religion. It is the administrative and religious centre of Bhutan which also houses the throne room of His Majesty the King, government ministries, and the largest monastery of the nation. Their National Assembly hall is located across the river which is in a new building the parliament house. You can enjoy the free time in your evening strolling the streets of the town as you will be staying here overnight.

Day 02:

Today on your second day of the Bhutan Tour, you will take  nature walks in the magnificent beauty of Bhutan. You will visit the Jigme Dorji Wangchuk park and soak yourself in scenic nature. Then take a hike to Tango Monastery which is located on a hill with peaceful surroundings and panoramic views of  the beautiful Thimphu Valley. During the day, you will visit the golden Buddha statue which is also known as the Buddha Dordenma viewpoint and followed by your visit to the art school which is the national institute for Zorig Chusum. You will later in the evening see the King’s Memorial Chorten where locals pray daily, the paper factory where Bhutanese traditional paper is made by hand in a unique way and end your day by staying overnight in your hotel. 

 

Day 03:

After breakfast you will embark on a journey to your next destination which is Punakha. It is also known as the winter capital of Bhutan as it is accessible by passing the Dochu La Pass at an elevation of 3,048 meters from sea level. Then you will visit the Royal Botanical Garden of Bhutan and see the rich flora and fauna preserved there at Lamperi. During the day you will take a short hike to Chimi Lhakhang, the fertility temple in Mesina which will be a spiritual and religious experience of your tour. You will also visit the magnificent Punakha Dzong, a grand fortress which is adorned with exquisite Bhutanese art and intricate craftsmanship which you will get to witness and experience. Then later in the evening in Punakha, you can pray along with the nuns in their evening prayer and experience peace, calmness and true Buddhist spirituality. You will spend your night here in Punakha and prepare for tomorrow's tour.

 

Day 04:

After breakfast in your hotel in Punakha, you will embark on a 3 to 4 hour drive to Gangtey which is also known as Phobjikha Valley. The drive will offer you a scenic journey passing through mountains, rivers and traditional Bhutanese villages. After you reach Gangtey you will be checked in to your hotel and thereafter will visit the Gangtey Monastery which is at the top of the hill. The monastery you visit has its roots to the Nyingmapa Tradition. Then you will learn about the life of monks in the monastery along with Buddhist rituals which will be a holy experience throughout your journey. During your time in Gangtey you can stroll through the natural trails and visit the local villages and experience the warm hospitality and tradition. At the end of this day you will check back in your hotel and stay overnight there.

 

Day 05:

In the early morning after breakfast, you will check out and start your journey back to where you came from this day. You will be driven for around 5 to 6 hours back to Paro valley where you first touched Bhutan. During your return drive you will witness spectacular landscapes of rivers, forests and Bhutanese villages. You can even stop at Dochula Pass and visit the 108 Chortens and take lots of photographs also of the Himalayan views that you will see. On your way you can also explore the traditional Bhutanese lifestyle and architecture of their settlements. Kyichu Lakhang which is one of the most sacred and oldest temples of Bhutan will also be on your way to Paro which you can explore. After you shortly arrive in Paro and check in at your hotel you will explore the Paro town and the sights it has to offer. You will visit Paro Rinpung Dzong which is an iconic fortress and monastery that embodies the Bhutanese architecture. Then you can explore around the town visiting local shops and shopping for souvenirs and at the end of the day rest overnight in your hotel. 

 

Day 06:

Waking up early you will have your breakfast and prepare to hike up to the Tiger’s Nest which is one of the most popular and religious sites in Bhutan. It is a sacred monastery which is built on a sheer cliff 900 meters above the ground. The Taktshang Monastery is a sacred place where the legend of Guru Rinpoche is said to have flown to by riding on a tigress. He then is said to have meditated there in secluded caves for months. During your ascend to the top of the Tiger’s Nest, you should definitely pause at fews stops so that you can have the best views of the entire Paro valley along with mountains in the background. You can have your lunch sitting at the Taktshang cafe which provides you with spectacular views of the monastery itself. Later in the evening you can explore the town for some last minute shopping or just a nice walk around. You will stay overnight in Paro in your hotel. 

 

Day 07:

The end of your Bhutan Royal Tour comes to an end this day so you will be driven to the airport in Paro by our representative in a private vehicle approximately 3 hours before your scheduled flight time. From there you will board your flight with a heart and mind full of memories of the beautiful Bhutan and its rich culture.
